Hello. I'm a designer.

Richard Muscat Richard Muscat

Since 2014 I've been working at Automattic (the company behind WordPress.com, Jetpack, Akismet, and more) as a growth engineer working remotely primarily from Malta.

Between 2009 I worked at Red Gate Software in Cambridge where I started off as a UX designer and eventually became Head of User Experience and Programme Manager.

I mostly enjoy designing software products, web apps and optimisation processes. I am a strong believer in the principles of user-centred and participatory design as I've found these approaches to produce outstanding results in almost any discipline I've touched. But I also have a lot of respect and faith in Self Design, aka "scratching your own itch".

In my world design is more than a visual activity. It underpins everything we do. Everything is designed — the only difference is whether you pay attention to the design process or not. Irrespective of whether the challenge is to build a piece of software, create a strategy or run an executive meeting, the design approach coupled with iterative results-oriented testing will always yield outstanding results.

I also enjoy copywriting and making things line up.

See my portfolio for more detail on my experience and get in touch if you have questions.
